Thank heaven you didn’t drop by Thrift Studio in the Design Ditrict Sunday or today because it plain ain’t open. Nope. It’s closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Since its preview party on October 10, the place has been non-stop shopping and restocking of all types of furnishings and decorations. If you were there the preview night like Joyce Fox, Christine Allison, and Laura Kolstelny, you might have missed a few things. . . like couches, beds and armoires.
Billie Leigh Rippey with daughter Paige Baten-Locke was joined by Dallas designer Megan Adams, whose grandmother Lindalyn Adams will be honored on Thursday, October 24, by the Girl Scouts at the Anatole. Megan was right at home among all the Thrift Studio furnishings. She’s been designing melamine dinnerware and tabletops for Neiman Marcus. Initially she got her start creating all types of clutches, pillows, scarves, lampshades and even iPad covers.
But on this night the items were all gently experienced goodies that had been donated by area designers and interior decorators to support Dwell With Dignity. Funds raised from the pop-up studio will help the DWD crew “to help families escape poverty and homelessness through design. One household at a time.”
That night was so jammed with people, it was returning to a G-rated version of 1970’s Studio 54. Some were checking out bargains; others were checking out each other. People were all over the place — upstairs, downstairs, out front.
As Jim Showers (Thrift Studio Honorary Chair Jan Shower’s husband) and Todd Fiscus were waiting for their cars out front, Todd looked slimmer than ever. Said he wanted to be his perfect weight by his New Year’s Eve wedding to Cerón in NYC. Then he was off to prep for the debut of Sky Mirror at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Sorta doubt they’re registered at Thrift Studio, since the studio will close down on Saturday, November 9.
