According to Genesis Women’s Shelter Executive Director Susan Wells Jenevein,
“This holiday season, the women and children at Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support are making new traditions of safety and comfort.
“Our wish as an agency is that you will help us provide a complete holiday experience for each individual under our care. With the help of generous donors, we are able to remind a mom and her children that Santa can still find their family no matter where they stay this season.
“As always, we’d love for you to adopt a family (or two!) and fulfill their wish lists. Simply let us know the size of family you’d like to adopt and we’ll provide you with all the details.
“There’s also another way you can help. Each year, families will walk into our Shelter on Christmas Eve or perhaps the day after Christmas…we don’t know their immediate needs, sizes, or what items will be on their wish list, but we can plan ahead with your participation. Please consider organizing a gift card drive so the staff of Genesis is able to provide necessary items and a few gifts to open as a family. For many, it’s the first time in a long time they will have the opportunity to experience the joy and wonder of the giving season in safe place—both emotionally and physically.
“Whether you adopt a family or organize a gift card drive, your gift is so much more than a present under a tree; it represents a caring community and helps victims of domestic violence know they are not alone.
